Athletics Upgrades at Troy High
New athletics upgrades have arrived at Troy High just in time for the new school year.
With money from the district’s building site & sinking fund, the school now has brand new turf in their stadium, along with new flooring and bleachers in the main gymnasium.
The typical lifespan for turf at our high schools is 10-15 years, depending on usage. Troy High’s turf was 12 years old, and was due for replacement as a result of normal wear and tear.
Gym bleachers usually have a lifespan of around 25 years. The ones replaced at Troy High were original to the building (over 30 years).
Athens High School can also expect similar work soon, with new turf scheduled for the summer of 2024. This work was intentionally staggered so that neither school would be without a stadium field to use. Doing one at a time allows student athletes at both schools to still have access to one field for practices. Troy High’s turf was in worse shape than Athens, so that is why the schools were scheduled in this order.
The gym bleachers at Athens are newer and will be evaluated during the Athens bond renovations. Stay tuned for more news later in the school year about expected upgrades at both schools.
