IA East Winter Olympics 2025

The 2025 Winter Olympics occurred on Friday, February 14th, for the International Academy East! The six houses, Audemus - Go Lions,  Valemus - Go Wolfs, Scimus - Go Dragons, Somnamus - Go Pegasus, Miramur - Go Unicorns, and Curamus - Go Flamingos, competed again, for the glory of their house.

The battle for house points started on Monday of that week since it was Spirit Week. Students and teachers won points for their houses for participating in the Spirit Week dress-up challenges. The house with the most points at the end of the week would win the Olympics!

Simultaneously, Penny Wars was happening this week, in which students and teachers put coins in their house buckets for positive points and dollar bills in other house buckets for negative points. At the end of the week, the house with the most points in Penny Wars got to choose which charity to donate all the money to.

Finally, on Friday morning, it was Olympics Day. Students had a schedule like they would on a half-day of school; at lunch, they had house pictures. Afterward, they all went to the gym for the opening ceremony event, a Scooter Relay Race. One student from each grade from each house participated in this fun start to the day. After the opening ceremony, all the students went to their two blocks of Olympic events to play the games.

Then, they all gathered again in the gym for the closing ceremony, for the results from Penny Wars and the Olympics. The house that won Penny Wars is house Scimus!! They got to choose the charity and decided that all the money collected from Penny Wars would be donated to the Troy Food Pantry! Then, everyone listened for the final results. The houses tied in last place were the houses Miramur and Audamus, the house in 4th place was house Valemus, then in 3rd place was Somnamus, and then 2nd place was Scimus, and the house that won it all, and the winner of the entire Winter Olympics was, house Curamus! This marked Curamus’s first Olympic victory, establishing it as the final house to claim a set of games during the first four years of the house system at IA East. Go Flamingos! Everyone had fun and can’t wait for next year’s Olympics!
