“Shrek the Musical” at Athens High School
On November 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, the theatre students at Athens High School performed “Shrek the Musical”. The production was full of comedy, adventure, and drama. Tickets are $15 per child and $20 per adult. The play was directed by the Athens theatre teacher Mrs. Manfredi, who is very experienced with plays and knows how to entertain an audience! This is her 52nd year teaching theatre at Athens! The character Shrek was played by Nathaniel Sakmar who is a senior at Athens. The character Princess Fiona was played by Lana Lanzanas who is a junior at Athens. The character Donkey was play by Ralph Richardson who is also a junior at Athens. I got the wonderful opportunity to interview Nathaniel to talk about him being Shrek.
Question: Why did you choose to be Shrek?
Nathaniel: I really like the character Shrek as a kid and it makes me really happy that I get to play Shrek and be the lead role of this play.
Question: What drived you to participate in plays?
Nathaniel: My dream is to get into film school after I finish my senior year. My desire is to inspire and entertain the audience.
Athens theatre students stage 2 productions per year, one time in the fall and another time in the spring. We hope you’ll attend the show!
