Athens Coffeehouse 2024
MUSE hits it off again with another year of Coffeehouse, this time with an underwater theme. Poets, singers, bands, and other artists with exceptional talent all came together to bring Athens an unforgettable night. People serenaded Lana Lanzanas with their phone lights as she sang “Stepping on the Cracks” and raved for an encore after a certain few performances.
When asked the motive behind Coffeehouse, Allison Pan—the editor of MUSE— responded by saying, “live music and poetry, that hits hard, and I want to give people an opportunity to experience that”. Coffeehouse accomplishes that goal, as friends and family gather to support their loved ones and strangers alike. Additionally, the event gave MUSE a chance to “sell the MUSE magazine, which has, like, poems and photography from students, so that’s cool too”.
But, this night wouldn’t have been possible without the talented performers. For Joshua Gallega, who preformed three distinct times, he described it “in the moment, right before and while playing [as] for sure nerve wracking, but post-performance, knowing that I was able to perform for so many people, it makes Coffeehouse the highlight of my high school career”. Indeed, this night was a highlight not only for the performers, but also for the entire Athen’s community.
