“White Christmas” at Troy High School

This year Troy High School put on a performance of “White Christmas” for their winter musical. With six different show dates plus a student matinee, there were many opportunities to catch the spectacular show.

White Christmas follows best friends Bob Wallace, played by Omar Atasi, and Phil Davis, played by Rishi Rao. The friends are in search of romance while traveling the country to perform their smash-hit singing and dancing numbers, and not only do they find it, but they also come across some old friends in need of a little holiday cheer.

Rishi Rao, a senior who plays Phil Davis in White Christmas says his favorite part of the musical was his Act I duet with fellow actress Kate Brokenshire, who plays Betty Haynes. “I like how I have a short singing part, and then the ballroom dancing really takes center stage for most of the song. Kate is also an amazingly expressive and poised dancer and so fun to perform with always.” The cast formed unforgettable bonds and friendships through the show that are certain to stick for years to come, which Rishi reflects on, “I love the community we have in theatre, and all the close friendships I’ve built over the years. When I was a freshman, I was really inexperienced and I needed a lot of help from upperclassmen to grow and step out of my comfort zone, but now I get to be a mentor to newbies myself, which I find very fulfilling. I’ve gotten to know people really well that I probably would have never interacted with if I hadn’t joined theatre, and I really enjoy the time I spend with them even outside rehearsal. My friends and this supportive community is what I think I will miss most when I graduate next year.”

White Christmas is a feel good musical open to all ages and audiences. The Troy High School Theatre Ensemble thanks you for joining them for this year’s winter musical!
